Betmar, A place to call home...

In 1966, Florida boasted four mobile home parks.  Seizing an opportunity, Mr. M.H. Meengs bought 200 acres of farmland along Highway 54, including a caretaker's home, which is now our office building.

Mr. Meengs took George Sprinkle as a a partner and the men named the park Betmar, for their wives, Betty and Mary, respectively and as the demand grew, they purchased more land.  Shortly after, 185 acres known as Lake Betmar Estates was added, 65 acres of recreational land was acquired. Later, Betmar was bought by Betmar Owners, Inc. which oversees activities, clubs, while Betmar Acres, Inc. works with property and possessions.  Beginning with one clubhouse, shuffle court, and a three par golf course, Betmar has grown to include three busy clubhouses, 24 shuffle courts, 3 par 3-4 executive golf courses.

The Park now has 1670 homes and within a total of 445 acres.

Contracted security for nightly patrol.  A monthly bulletin keeps residents informed, and each year a new King and Queen reign over special events.  An artistically designed street map is displayed near the attractive front entrance.  Residents enjoy lighted paths, fishing ponds and gardens. In addition to ancient live oak trees, the garden club works hard to beautify and maintain the grounds with flowers and shrubs.

Betmar Acres has a history of generous people contributing their time and energy to make it one of the best parks in Florida. This good neighbor policy has created the park’s unique and friendly quality. The Betmar Volunteer Security Commission for a safe park has become a model for other Florida parks. Betmar is very proud of its volunteer system. As you live here you will see improvements, sometimes on a daily basis, which happen only because of this system.

Members of the park often talk about our low fees, and the extra facilities we have. What we have here now is because of the people in the past who volunteered. Not only will you meet your neighbors as you volunteer, but also people from some other section of the Park who could become your new friends.
